In addition to working with the RCMP in counter-drug efforts, reporting marine pollution violations, patrolling the far North, performing Search and Rescue (SAR) missions, and training for maritime surveillance missions, Canadian Forces CP-140 Aurora aircraft and crews provide annual support to Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) in helping enforce national and international fishing regulations.

Canadian Forces (CF) Operation Driftnet 2009 was conducted during September of this year. It involved one CF CP-140 Aurora aircraft deployed with an aircrew, technicians and spares to patrol an area of operations in the Western Central Pacific Ocean in international waters and airspace. The area was identified on the basis on the basis of threat assessment and fish migration patterns. Data from the Operation Driftnet missions was shared with DFO and other International partners.
CP-140 Aurora long-range patrol aircraft have provided annual support to Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to uphold international conventions against illegal unregulated unreported fishing on the high seas on behalf of the Government of Canada since 1994. With its high endurance, long range and sensor fitment, the CP-140 is an ideal platform for conducting these patrols.
Canada Command is responsible for Canadian Forces routine and contingency operations in Canada and North America. It works in close partnership with federal departments and organizations and its roles include support to law enforcement agencies.
